These digital tableaus originated from the project "Visual Experiments in Camouflage". These images function as extended narratives of my experimentations in camouflage.
In the first scene, figures fully cloaked in camouflage begin to physically take pieces of the pattern from their bodies and consume it. In the act of consumption, the figures literally disappear into the background. I see consumption as a way of becoming the object you are eating: "You are what you eat". In this case, by devouring the camouflage design the figures achieve invisibility.
In the second scene, I wanted to explore camouflage's ability to be visually deceptive. The camouflage pattern flattens three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional images. The body behind the pattern becomes an abstraction. The uniforms in this scene are arranged in a ritual deep in the heart of the forest, as if taking on a life of their own.
In the third scene, forest creatures consume each other's bodies to form a pattern of their own. These digital narratives are ongoing explorations of various themes surrounding consumption, invisibility, erotic violence, disembodiment, exorcism, the supernatural, and rituals. I intend to make more of these digital manipulations concerning the military and violence.
